SESSION OUTLINE:
First, Yana Berkovich presenting a quick overview of the latest features and updates that came out in the most recent release of Power BI.
Next, Wouter De Raeve will be talking about data visualization best practices and technique. He will discuss how we can improve dashboard and report design by applying specific visualization techniques. These techniques are deduced from an understanding about how our eyes and brains perceive visual information. He will also be talking about fundamental rules and do's and don'ts in report designs.
SPEAKER PROFILE:
Wouter De Raeve is a newcomer to Vancouver, coming originally from Belgium. He has an Engineering Master's degree in Electronics, as well as a Master's degree in Economics and Business Administration. While working as a budget manager for national and international research projects, he developed a university-wide cost transparency model allowing for full cost transparency in research, educational and supporting activities. It is through this project that he started working as a consultant, focusing on profitability management and analytics. He expertise has expanded into overall performance management, designing accounting structures and processes, strategic budgeting cycles, management reporting and costing systems.
Wouter has worked as a freelance contractor in the crosslines between Finance and Business Intelligence, relying on Microsoft Business Intelligence, Power BI and Excel solutions to deliver insightful management reports. He first learned about Power BI three years ago when trying to build a Pivot Table with different granularities and discovered this funny called thing called Power Pivot.
