In the past decade, we have witnessed the exponential growth of the digital video industry on platforms such as YouTube and Facebook both in terms of the production and content consumption. As an example, on YouTube alone, we have nearly 2 billion active monthly users and tens of millions of content creators upload more than 300 hours of content every minute. Such explosive growth has provided a big opportunity in terms of revenue generation for hundreds of thousands of content creators and a fantastic opportunity for brands to target a very large audience. On the flip side, the presence of the so-called "bad actors", who create unsuitable content (e.g., advocating hate, terrorism, violence, ) or distributing copyrighted material have caused issues within the industry. As a result, major advertisers have revisited their digital advertising strategies and expect solutions to address such issues. Furthermore, premium content creators expect digital video platforms to take the necessary action and protect their intellectual property and copyright. In this talk, we will dig deeper into the challenges that digital video platforms are currently facing. We also discuss the ways that the industry (including BBTV as a pioneer of proprietary technology solutions in the digital video space) is addressing such challenges. In particular, we will discuss how the digital video industry is building more trust amongst advertisers, creators and viewers by fighting the bad actors in the digital video space in terms of both content and brand safety as well as protecting copyright.
