Let's meet for another evening of data visualization!
This time it will all be in the spirit of Urban Complexity.
We're excited to have a great lineup of speakers who will tell us how visualization is used to plan, improve, and learn about the massive, interconnected, and complex systems that we call cities.
The presenters
• Colleen Hardwick is an urban geographer, film producer, and internet entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of PlaceSpeak, a location-based smart cities citizen engagement platform. She will show us how online tools can empower people to make meaningful impact on their own community.
• Jens von Bergmann is one of the heads behind MountainMath, a Vancouver-based company centered around data analysis, management and visualization. CensusMapper is one of his projects - an online environment that makes it super easy to create interactive maps based on Canada's census data. He will also show us cancensus, a new R package which uses the CensusMapper API to pull in census data for analysis and visualization.
• David Vogt is the president of Urban Opus, Canada's smart city innovation hub. Originally an astronomer, he specializes in collaborative innovation and the experience economy. He'll be telling us about smart cities and how citizen data can be used to enhance urban systems and lifestyles.
Join us for 3 exciting talks, light snacks, and to meet other data visualization enthusiasts in town.
Big thanks to CodeCore for providing their space! And also many thanks to Nuba and Keboola for providing snacks and drinks.
Doors open at 6pm.
Talks start at 6:30pm.
