Join us on January 23, 2017 at 6:00 pm for an interesting and informative workshop on the topic of Discrimination in the Workplace. A panel of Human Resources representatives and industry experts will lead the discussion.
In fields such as science and engineering, discrimination is a topic often discussed and significant effort is placed on encouraging diversity in the workplace. However, there are still many cases of discrimination and their resolution is not always clear.
The objective of the event is to have a constructive and positive discussion about discrimination, and effective methods of mitigation.

| | Karen Lewis Karen is an HR Business Partner in SNC-Lavalin, working out of the Vancouver office supporting several Infrastructure Engineering Business Units including Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Ports & Marine as well as Airports and Aviation.
Karen previously resided in Toronto, where she supported multiple business units as Human Resources Advisor in the Mining & Metallurgy.
Prior to Joining SNC-Lavalin Karen held various Human Resources positions with Thales, St Michaels Hospital, Toyota, Ryerson University and Enbridge.

| | Yasamin Houshmand Yasamin Houshmand is a BASc Systems Engineering graduate from Simon Fraser University who now works as a Cloud Engineer at SAP. During her studies, she held many executive leadership positions in the Engineering Science Student Society and the Dance Marathon Club. As a student-representative she has attended over 20 national and international conferences, represented students in front of the Engineering Accreditation board, and raised over $2,800 for BC Children's Hospital. As someone who enjoys being involved in the community, Yasamin has become an active member of the SAP's Business Women's Network group and the Green Team, as well as volunteered at SAP events such as GirlsSmart4Tech, a program that encourages grade 7 females to learn about computer science.

| | Andrea Arduini, P.Eng Andrea Arduini is a mining rock mechanics engineer with over 15 years of experience in Canada, the United States and Tanzania. She has worked as a rock mechanics engineer/mine planning engineer for several major mining companies including Placer Dome Inc., Barrick Gold Corp. and Cameco Corp. prior to a move to the consulting world with Golder Associates in 2010. In 2016 she made the move to academia as a Lecturer in the Mining Engineering Department at UBC focusing on open pit and underground mine design, and rock fragmentation.

| | Charlotte McFarland Charlotte McFarland's career in Human Resources began 15 years ago with the New Zealand Police. After 5 years as a Recruitment Officer, she travelled abroad and has since worked in both the public and private sectors, with experience in the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Charlotte arrived in Canada six years ago, and begun her tenure with SNC-Lavalin. During this time she has supported multiple business units including Mining & Metallurgy, Infrastructure, and Power. She was also the Change Agent representing Transportation and Environment during the Workday implementation project. Charlotte presently fulfills the role of HR Manager, Clean Power for British Columbia and Alberta.
