Presentation Description:
Since Docker 1.0 has been released in 2014, it has taken the tech community by storm. While Docker may not be the first wave of containerization, the rise of Docker coincides with the advent of microservices architecture and the DevOps revolution. It offers flexibility, scalability and predictability in creating and deploying software -- traits that are especially important when application and service providers are constantly striving to shorten time to market and answer the ever changing market needs.
To service the container workflow and answer the explosive popularity of Docker, AWS introduced Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) in 2015. To diversify the offering on ECS, AWS has also announced Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS) and AWS Fargate during re:Invent 2017. On top of these managed container orchestration services, customers can still continue to run their container workloads on EC2, be it Docker (Swarm), Kubernetes or Rancher.
In this presentation, we are going to deep dive into the new services Amazon EKS and AWS Fargate, and discuss how to pick the right service for the right container workloads.

Presenter Bio:
Mency Woo is a Solutions Architect at TriNimbus. Coming from a build automation and release management background, she has been doing DevOps before DevOps has become the thing to do. Her primary drive is to automate known workflows such that more time can be spent exploring the unknown, which explains why the AWS ecosystem resonates with her so much. She also has a soft spot for Internet of Things, good coffee and ginger snaps.
