Payroll Specialist at BuildDirect will be responsible for processing and completing full-cycle payroll for 250+ employees, with further growth expected in 2014. Reporting to the Controller, this role will handle all aspects of the payroll function and ensure all employees are paid accurately and according to the pay schedule. The Payroll Specialist will also assist the finance department with processing subcontractor paperwork and payment, employee reimbursements, travel advances and petty-cash.

  • In charge of processing and completing payroll on a semi-monthly basis for company employees and subcontractors
  • Processing all terminations, leave of absences, new employees and any other ad hoc payroll duties
  • Calculate monthly sales commission
  • Process all year end payroll related tax slips and filings
  • Reconciling year end benefits, bonuses, sales commission, etc.
  • Processing and completing employee reimbursements, travel advances and petty cash
  • Liaising with HR and other departments when required
  • Ensuring accuracy of all payroll information is maintained at all times 
  • Assisting finance team with ad hoc duties, such as: credit card reconciliation, GST/HST filing
  • Show initiative by constantly analyzing payment process to ensure efficiency and provide recommendations, as required

Expected Outcomes:

  • Complete and process semi-monthly payroll accurately and on-time
  • Process new employee and sub-contractors paperwork
  • Review, process and file employee reimbursement and sub-contractors paperwork accurately and on-time
  • Answer payroll related enquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Manage payroll process for a fast growth company
  • Process and file employee travel advances and administer petty cash

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years payroll experience, handling an employee base of over 300 people
  • Must be competent in excel, demonstrate efficient and effective use of formula
  • Assertive and diplomatic
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit
  • High levels of integrity and a commitment to do what you say you are going to do
  • Desire to learn and continuously improve
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on number accuracy

  • Experience using accounting software or 3rd party software
