New Patents Improve Competitive Position and Increase Potential Licensing Opportunities
Vancouver, BC, February 25, 2015--(T-Net)--Nanotech Security Corp.(NTS.V) announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted two new patents, one in nanotechnology and one in optical thin film.
Nanotech expects to capitalize on the optical thin film patent in the immediate future. Both patents will add significantly to the Company's intellectual property portfolio with additional protection of the Company's range of colour-shifting anti-counterfeiting products.
Doug Blakeway, Nanotech CEO, commented on the new patents, "These two new patents reflect our on-going research and development into highly sophisticated solutions to the worldwide counterfeiting challenge. These patents contribute to improving the Company's competitive position and we think both could present additional opportunities to license our technologies."
USPTO No. 8,894,098 names Charles MacPherson, Denis Vendette, Gilles Girouard, and A. Oliver Stone as co-inventors. The patent secures intellectual property covering a very broad range of colour shifting luminescent devices, including for security document applications. These include applications combining for the first time two separately proven security applications- colour shifting films and fluorescing inks. This patent gives Nanotech protection for a whole new set of potential anti-counterfeiting product combinations.
USPTO No. 8,749,950, names the Company's Director, Dr. Bozena Kaminska, and Vice President, Products, Clint Landrock as co-inventors. Building on its core patent issued in 2012, this patent secures strategic intellectual property on an ionic polymer-based energy storage device, which includes capacitors and super-capacitors that can be printed directly onto security substrates such as paper or polymer bank notes, passports and identification cards, among other applications.
About Nanotech Security
Through its security and surveillance divisions, Nanotech Security Corp. has been a leading innovator in the design and production of advanced security products and surveillance solutions for a number of years.
Nanotech's KolourOptik(TM) and Plasmogram(TM) products are nanotechnology based product platforms originally inspired by investigation into the unique optical properties of the iridescent wings of the Blue Morpho butterfly. Our security products produce intense, high definition optically-variable images and colour-shift optical thin films. Activated by a simple tilt or rotation, with higher resolutions than the best LED-displays, they are ideal for authentication of currency, passports, and identification cards in addition to distinguishing branded goods from counterfeits. Our US based surveillance division designs and manufactures sophisticated surveillance and intelligence gathering communications and forensic equipment for the law enforcement and intelligence community as well as runs a state of the art training academy where we provide technical surveillance training to the law enforcement community.
