BC Students Selected for Team Canada at International Science & Engineering FairMonday, March 23, 2015
Vancouver, BC, March 23, 2015--(T-Net)--Five British Columbia students are among twelve of Canada's brightest high school scientists that have been selected by Youth Science Canada to represent the country at the world's largest and most prestigious science fair, the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) on May 10-15 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania.
The competitive national selection process concluded Sunday as part of Youth Science Month. Since 2002, the Province of BC has proclaimed March as Youth Science Month to acknowledge participation of elementary and secondary students in science fairs across BC, the Canada-Wide Science Fair and international competitions.
The five BC students join Team Canada-ISEF at the annual forum with more than 1,600 high school students from over 70 countries showcasing their independent research and competing for more than $4 million in awards, and they are:
• Ann Makosinski - Victoria, BC

• Janice Pang - Coquitlam, BC
miRNAs as biomarkers of IAPP-induced inflammation in type 2 diabetes
• Duncan Stothers - Vancouver, BC
The FIRST Frame: Personalized Front Impact Reduction System for Bicycles
• Nicole Ticea - Burnaby, BC
Point-of-Care Low-Cost Disposable Device for Nucleic Acid Testing of HIV: Sample-to-Answer in 60 Min
• Raymond Wang - Vancouver, BC
Aircraft Cabin Airflow: Curbing Disease Transmission
Mr. Stothers, Ms. Ticea, Mr. Wang and Ms. Pang will be attending the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair at UBC and Ms. Makosinski will be competing at the Vancouver Island Regional Science Fair at UVic this April.
