UBC Engineering's science camps will welcome more than 2,400 kids this year.
Vancouver, BC, June 23, 2015--(T-Net)--Sun's up, school's out—and for kids in Grades 1 to 12 wanting to make the most of these long days, UBC Engineering's Geering Up science camps offer fun and interactive science, math, engineering and technology programming.
New funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) means more than 2,400 will have the opportunity for hands-on experiences in engineering, science and technology in cities throughout the province.
“Very young children will learn basic science by blowing bubbles, building toothpick towers or playing with food colouring,” says camp co-director Jeanie Malone. “Older kids will experiment with being CSI investigators, robot builders or rocket designers, learning science, math and engineering along the way.”
New camps offered this year include Tech-Makers, a maker camp for Grades 4 to 6 where students design and build cool gadgets such as rockets and concrete structures; and Code Creators, a computer programming camp for Grades 2 to 9.
Camps run June 29 to August 28 in Vancouver, Kelowna, Ladner and Prince George. Bursaries and before/after childcare available.
