March Declared Youth Science Month in BC
Friday, March 11, 2016
Vancouver, BC, March 11, 2016--(T-Net)--The Provincial Government joins provinces across Canada with the Proclamation of March as “Youth Science Month”.
British Columbia's future leaders of science and innovation are preparing to showcase their own creative science concepts and theories province-wide.
Supported by the Science Fair Foundation of BC, communities from 13 regions of the province will hold local science fairs in March and April where students will be selected for Team BC - to represent their region at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, to be held in Montreal, Quebec on May 15 - 20, 2016.
2015 marked one of the most exciting and successful years yet for BC students at both the national and international Science Fairs!
Austin Wang and Rebecca Baron received three of the top four Grand Awards at the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton, New Brunswick. On the same day, Raymond Wang and Nicole Ticea received the top two awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
So far this year, Daniel O'Reilly and Austin Wang, who were selected to participate in the Taiwan International Science Fair, both returned from Taipei with medals in their categories. We are looking forward to continued success this year!
“The chance to travel to Montreal and take part in such a significant event as the national Canada-Wide Science Fair, and possibly qualify for international competitions, is a great motivator for participants,” explains Patti Leigh, Executive Director of the Science Fair Foundation of BC. “But Science Fairs are certainly more than just competition among students; they are a forum for thought, analysis and inspiration for the community at-large.”
