Vancouver, BC, June 23, 2016--(T-Net)--The City of New Westminster announced yesterday the launch of BridgeNet - a new City-owned open-access fibre optic network.
The one-gigabit rated network is currently being installed along commercial districts of the city.
Local internet service providers Novus, AEBC, Uniserve, and Urban Fibre will lease fibre from BridgeNet and sell the high-speed service to customers. Competitively priced high-speed broadband service is expected to be available in September.

High-speed broadband service will be available in Downtown and Uptown New Westminster this September, and in Sapperton and Quayside in 2017.
What is an Open Access Fibre Network?
Open access fibre provides any internet service provider or telecommunication company access to the infrastructure at fair and reasonable prices, and on transparent, non-discriminatory terms. This creates both an open market and platform for internet service providers and telecommunication companies to add value and deliver affordable service to their customers. As the open access network provider, the City of New Westminster remains neutral and independent, strengthening the local economy through greater competition and access to gigabit fibre.
