Burnaby, BC, November 8, 2017--(T-Net)--Simon Fraser University announced that it has, for the ninth time in 10 years, topped the Maclean's Magazine University rankings in the comprehensive universities category.
“It's gratifying to see Simon Fraser University again recognized for excellence,” says SFU President Andrew Petter. “As Canada's engaged university, we take great pride in being a research and innovation leader, and in our commitments to students and the communities we serve.”
The comprehensive category is comprised of universities that have a significant amount of research activity and a wide range of programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including professional degrees.
SFU continues to be highly ranked for its national reputation—ninth overall among 49 universities in the rankings (including those in two other categories: medical/doctoral and primarily undergraduate). SFU remains among the top 10 universities considered Most Innovative and is 12th among Leaders of Tomorrow.
The reputational rankings are based on a survey of university faculty and senior administrators, high school guidance counselors and a variety of business people across the country.
In its comprehensive category, SFU ranked first in student services and library expenses and acquisitions.
The University also ranks second for its research in areas that include faculty awards, medical science grants, and citations; third for grants in social sciences and the humanities; and fourth in overall research dollars.
