Burnaby, BC, July 20, 2017--(T-Net)--Simon Fraser University's Faculty of Applied Sciences announced that it is launching a new summer camp for girls in grades six and seven that will focus on building skills in computer programming and electronics.
The five-day camp is running in two Surrey elementary schools this month: Cindrich Elementary School from July 10-14, and Green Timbers Elementary School from July 17-21.
The camp recently received generous support from Vancouver-based tech entrepreneur Shafin Diamond Tejani, CEO and founder of Victory Square Technologies, who has established a $75,000 matching fund to help grow the program for future years.
Recently named “Person of the Year” by the B.C. Tech Association, Tejani is calling on other members of the tech and business communities to join him in supporting this initiative and help encourage girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In recognition of this donation, the camp has been named the Victory Square Girls Tech Camp.
