Tuesday, May 15, 2018
Surrey, BC, May 15, 2018--(T-Net)-- Surrey's Health and Technology District has signed an MOU with Opportunities New Brunswick (ONB) on a unique West Coast-East Coast innovations partnership that enables them to further explore exponential health and technology related opportunities and beyond.
"This partnership truly showcases Canada's strength in leadership around health-tech collaborations to solve global healthcare challenges, and strengthens Canada's economic landscape through talent development and job creation," says Rowena Rizzotti, Vice President of Healthcare and Innovation at the Health and Technology District. "It also means bringing together some of Canada's brightest leaders in Digital Health research and science to change how healthcare is delivered to Canadians."
The partnership will connect the two coasts to grow The Heath and Technology District nationally and explore new markets. The District's developer, Lark Group, is currently working with ONB and other New Brunswick partners to explore location options around the development of a Health and Technology District Atlantic intended to strengthen Canada's overall economy as well as the digital, health and technology sectors on each coast.
New Brunswick will directly benefit from the knowledge and expertise of The Health and Technology District's success and experience in advancing health and technology breakthroughs in British Columbia. The partnership enables the brightest minds to collaborate and develop health related innovations on both sides of the country
"We are attracting and supporting opportunities to grow the economy, create jobs in our province, and foster a spirit of entrepreneurship within the innovations community," says Stephen Lund, CEO of Opportunities New Brunswick. "We are looking forward to replicating the success of The Health and Technology District in New Brunswick. Our vision is to encourage innovations in Digital Health technologies to bring economic and healthcare benefits to the people of New Brunswick."
The Health and Technology District is one of BC's most rapidly growing and dynamic new health-tech sectors located in Surrey's emerging innovation ecosystem. It has a unique advantage being ideally located directly across from Surrey Memorial Hospital, one of Canada's busiest hospitals. It is where a collaborative cluster of multinational and start-up companies, international partners, clinical and research facilities, scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs, work together in partnership to accelerate the implementation of technologies and solutions towards health care impacts and improvements.
ONB is New Brunswick's lead business development corporation working to drive economic growth and job creation in the province. It provides support services for businesses across the province and is strategically led by a private sector board of directors. ONB believes strongly in the future of New Brunswick and, since its inception on April 1, 2015, has successfully been the catalyst for competitive and innovative economic growth and job creation for the benefit of New Brunswick.
