Vancouver, BC, October 15, 2007--(T-Net)--TELUS and HTC Corp.(HTC), the leading provider of Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R)-based smart devices in Canada, today announced the first North American availability of the HTC Touch(TM). The HTC Touch(TM) is a deceptively small and stylish mobile phone that ushers in an innovative new concept in intuitive touch screen navigation. It brings a new level of simplicity to the powerful and function-rich device experience that today's mobile consumers demand.
Today's announcement expands TELUS' industry leading portfolio of devices powered by Windows Mobile 6 software and reaffirms TELUS as Canada's leading supplier of HTC smartphones. It also extends TELUS' leadership in extending the benefit of Windows Mobile-based devices to the growing segment of consumers who want access to their phone, e-mail, calendar, contacts and multimedia services all in one device.
"The HTC Touch(TM) with its intuitive touch screen functionality and three-dimensional user interface is sure to be a hit with style-conscious users looking for the functionality of a smartphone that is easy to use," said David Neale, TELUS' senior vice-president of Products and Services. "TELUS is proud to be the country's leader in delivering fully-equipped HTC and Windows Mobile-based smartphone solutions that help keep our clients entertained and informed while on the go."
HTC Touch(TM) features a new underlying screen gesture technology called TouchFLO(TM). Developed by HTC, TouchFLO(TM) enables smooth finger touch scrolling and navigation of menus, lists, Web pages, documents, messages and more. Consumers simply sweep their finger up the display to launch an animated, three-dimensional interface comprising three screens: Contacts, Media and Applications. The interface can then be spun by swiping a finger right or left across the display, providing efficient access to the features consumers use most. TouchFLO(TM) is even intelligent enough to vary screen sensitivity depending on finger or stylus input. HTC has simplified text input on the touch screen by including a large on-screen keyboard with predictive text capabilities.
Users can be entertained with multimedia access, including MP3 and video playback via Windows Media Player 10 Mobile. The HTC Touch(TM) also features a 2.0 megapixel high resolution digital camera with video capture and playback, and Bluetooth support for accessories such as wireless stereo headsets, hands-free car kits or for use as a wireless modem. Clients can enjoy the great multimedia features of the HTC Touch out of the box with the included wired stereo headset, SanDisk(R) 1 GB memory card and USB cable.
"Today's introduction of the new HTC Touch(TM) signifies a new era in smart device usage by bringing an entirely new and easy to use touch interface to a sleek and compact device that is sure to draw attention," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of Sales and Marketing, HTC America. "With the new HTC Touch(TM) users are able to easily access their most commonly used content, contacts and features with only a simple flick of the finger."
Users can stay informed by taking advantage of the new HTC-designed homescreen which provides one-touch access to emails, text messages, calendar appointments and contacts, as well as current weather conditions and forecasts for hundreds of cities around the world.
For secure, real-time access to email, calendar, contacts, and task information, clients can use TELUS Mobile Email, which is designed to integrate seamlessly with the HTC Touch and Windows Mobile platform. For more information on TELUS Mobile Email, visit telusmobility.com/telus-mobile-email
