Wednesday, October 21, 2009
Vancouver, BC, October 21, 2009--(T-Net)--The board and members of New Media BC (www.newmediabc.com) and the Wireless Innovation Network of BC (www.winbc.org) voted unanimously last night at their AGM and EGM to merge their two associations, and to form a new association entitled DigiBC ("The Digital Media and Wireless Association of BC").
The meeting took place last night at the offices of Rainmaker Entertainment (500-2025 West Broadway), starting at 5 p.m.
Rochelle Grayson reported on several successful initiatives undertaken by New Media BC over the past year including Vancouver Digital Media Week and outlined briefly some of the rational for the merger (together with Warren Franklin, Chair, New Media BC Board of Directors).
Michael Bidu made a brief presentation outlining the process and timeline of the merger discussions, and also outlined the focus and structure of the new association which is tentatively scheduled to have a board of approximately 20-24 people, an executive committee of 5-8, management of 4-5 people, and a strategic advisory group of 8-12.
The Association intends to have approximately seven Special Interest Groups (SIG's) focussed roughly on the following areas: Mobile and Wireless, Video Games, Animation and VFX, Web 2.0 and Social Media, eLearning, HR and Talent, and Capital, with a champion appointed for each group.
Mere details will be released as they become available.
