Neodyn Systems Announces Gumstix® Contract with SJ Geophysics
Friday, May 27, 2011
Vancouver, BC, May 27, 2011--(T-Net)--Neodyn Systems Inc. announced a contract with SJ Geophysics Ltd. of Delta, BC.
Using an off-the-shelf computer-on-module (“COM”) in the DABstix project saved $40,000 and four months, according to the president and CTO of Neodyn Systems Inc.
“Our long-time client, SJ Geophysics Ltd. of Delta, BC, needed a self-contained, GPS-enabled data logger for ultra-high-resolution voltage signals. Gumstix® allowed us to focus on optimising the analogue circuits,” says William Hue. “Our approach is always to use the right solution for each product, and put our efforts where they will yield the most bang for our customers' buck.”
Neodyn has traditionally designed custom microprocessor hardware and firmware for its realtime scientific, medical and industrial instrumentation. It recently saw the value in Gumstix' products and became a Gumstix Verified Design Consultant. (http://www.gumstix.com/consultants.html)
The trend in the embedded computing industry has been toward embedded Linux® systems. In the case of DABstix, it was appropriate and useful as it enabled SJ Geophysics to run data-processing before and during data storage.
Mr. Hue feels that COM technology has come a long way in the past decade, to the point where battery-powered devices can take advantage of desktop-level performance: “DABstix had to last a whole day on a small battery pack, and yet have more computing power than a microcontroller could give us. The Gumstix Overo Earth™ had what we needed.”
Neodyn Systems is a full-service electronic product design company. The full DABstix case study can be found on the Gumstix® website: http://www.gumstix.com/cbg_data.html
