Vancouver, BC, June 11, 2012--(T-Net)--Vancouver-based web development company Mugo Web partnered with 49thShelf.com to create a new interactive map (http://49thShelf.com/map) that highlights the distinctly Canadian places represented in Canadian books. From lakes to oceans, and towns to cities, each book highlighted is either set in a place, in the case of works of fiction, or about the place, in the case of non-fiction.
The Read Local Interactive Map is open to contributions from any member of 49th Shelf (membership is free). By adding a pinpoint, members are helping other book readers discover great Canadian titles that should be added to any summer reading list.
49th Shelf Host & Producer Julie Wilson says: "There are so many incredible Canadian titles that it's sometimes hard to know where to start. We wanted to provide a fun way to explore summer reading from a distinctly Canadian perspective. By opening up the map to community contributions, we hope to inspire book routes through a map of Canada."
49th Shelf has over 53,000 book records, which are continuously updated via import scripts written by Mugo Web to consolidate feeds of various formats. The book map is an extension of the site's highly interactive focus: visitors can also rate, tag, comment, flag, Tweet, Facebook share, and list books, as well as play games, enter contests, and view a social activity timeline.
