Kelowna, BC, February 20, 2014--(T-Net)--Kelowna-based educational technology company, Mathtoons Media has signed its second Contribution Agreement with the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) to develop teacher-created mobile practice for upper level academics, according to a report by industry association Accelerate Okanagan.
“The future of math and science is in the hands of our students today,” says Mathtoons CEO, Kristin Garn. “If we can increase interest and ability in these areas by encouraging quality student mobile practice, we can help build a stronger education for Canada's future scientists and engineers.”
NRC-IRAP is providing advisory services and funding of up to $221,000 to support Mathtoons' development of collaborative authoring tools for teachers as well as personalized mobile practice applications for students.
Garn adds, “NRC-IRAP financial assistance for this project will allow our team to develop authoring tools and mobile practice with a broader scope toward achieving Western Canadian educational goals such as personalized and flexible learning.”
She further comments, “We're especially excited that this support allows for a refinement of our existing analytical tools which can help teachers and students build, foster and sustain engagement in STEM learning areas.”
Over the next twelve months, the Mathtoons team will work with key educational consultants and advisors to develop web-accessed content authoring software which will enable educators to easily and rapidly design and deploy engaging skills practice applications for student's personal mobile devices.
