Tableau Desktop customers can connect to, analyze, and act on insight gleaned from SQL Server Data using the Mac OS
Vancouver, BC, July 3, 2014--(T-Net)--In conjunction with the recent release of Tableau 8.2, Simba Technologies Inc., an enterprise leader in standards-based connectivity solutions for relational and multi-dimensional data, announced that the new Tableau Desktop on the Mac OS will use ODBC connectivity for Microsoft SQL Server developed by Simba.
The driver enables Tableau Software users to connect to and analyze SQL Server data, providing the same fast, visually compelling, and powerful analytics capabilities available on Windows.
“Tableau Software's innovative data analytics solutions demonstrate an intrinsic commitment to helping people see and understand their data,” says Simba Technologies CEO Amyn Rajan. “Tableau Desktop on the Mac opens up a new world of possibilities for Mac users wanting easier access to their data.”
“Tableau Desktop on the Mac will offer simpler and more seamless access to data for Mac users everywhere,” says Tableau Software Vice President of Product Management Dan Jewett. “Our partnership with Simba Technologies enables Tableau customers to bridge the gap between their Mac clients and corporate data stored in SQL Server data sources. Better connectivity leads to better visual analytics for everyone.”
The Simba driver leveraged by Tableau Desktop on the Mac connects seamlessly to SQL Server data sources via ODBC, with no fine-tuning required. Tableau Desktop customers using a Mac will now benefit from the same under-the-hood, best-in-class performance connectivity as Tableau for Windows users.
“Using the SQL Server wire protocol, the SQL Server ODBC driver for Mac connects directly to SQL Server itself without imposing multiple communication layers,” notes Simba Technologies CTO George Chow. “Simba's direct-to-the-wire design means that nothing gets in the way of fast, clean data connectivity for Tableau users.”
