Vancouver, BC, May 26, 2010--(T-Net)--Over the next two days at its VIDWeek 2010 Conference, DigiBC will release the results of an in-depth survey of its members.
The 2010 BC Digital Media and Wireless survey was conducted between February and April 2010 , by DigiBC - The Digital Media + Wireless Association of BC. The data was analyzed and compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers, BC Region.
“We undertook this survey for a number of reasons,” says DigiBC president Michael Bidu.
“First, the entire world is going digital and changes are happening fast. Convergence has come on the scene in a big way, and wireless health is also a major growth area now. So we needed to know what our industry was doing in those and other areas. And we needed to know the current state of the industry - its size, financial health and plans for growth - because we are asked those questions frequently by SMEs, large studios and global brands who want to do business with us.”
Mr. Bidu also noted that it has been several years since the last industry survey - 2007 for the wireless industry and 2003 for digital media. Since those surveys, the associations for those two sectors have merged.
“We simply needed a new snapshot of our industry to help us decide how to plan for our future,” says Mr. Bidu.
Information from the 2010 survey will help DigiBC and its members to understand the scope of the industry and its assets, and will deliver important insights into what the industry needs to sustain its growth. Mr. Bidu says that with such valuable intelligence, the association will be better able to support digital media and wireless in BC, and promote it more effectively with educational institutions, other industries, strategic international partners, and all levels of government.
Printed copies of the survey will be distributed at the VIDWeek 2010 Conference. Digital copies of the survey will be available at www.digibc.org and www.vidweek.com.
The survey showed that, on average, DigiBC members
“It's true our industry shrank a little during the recession,” says Mr. Bidu, “but many new opportunities for growth and collaboration are emerging and this survey shows that our local cluster has the experience, knowledge and talent to exploit demand throughout the world.
“British Columbia is focused on building competitive digital content and technology industries in a sustainable, knowledge-based economy. DigiBC members are integral to that vision, with world class companies in video games, animation and visual effects, social media, interactive marketing and e-learning, and a fast growing, innovative wireless and mobile sector.”
DigiBC would like to thank the following survey sponsors and organizations: Microsoft Corporation, BC Innovation Council, BC Interactive Studios, Telus, Bell, Wavefront, Vancouver Economic Development Commission, Canpages, Nokia Vancouver, EA and Industry Canada and NRC-IRAP.
