Vancouver, BC, February 27, 2017--(T-Net)--The Centre for Drug Research and Development (CDRD), Canada's national drug development and commercialization centre, has announced that it has appointed Gordon McCauley as its President and CEO.
A Vancouver-based life sciences leader with international experience in the industry, Mr. McCauley has been a Director of CDRD since 2012, assumed the position of Interim CEO last summer, and will now lead the organization going forward.
Mr. McCauley's extensive experience spans start-up and international businesses, venture capital investing, and public policy.
McCauley has served as President and CEO of Viable Healthworks Corp., President and CEO of Allon Therapeutics Inc., Co-Founder of NDI Capital, and a senior advisor to a number of Canadian political leaders.
He is Past-Chair of LifeSciences British Columbia, a Director of BIOTECanada, and was the first Canadian appointed to the Board of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) in Washington D.C. where he served in leadership positions until 2013.
CDRD Chair, Mr. Don Avison commented, “Gordon has shown a deep commitment to the life sciences communities of British Columbia and Canada, and has proven himself an outstanding leader on both the local and global stage. With CDRD's solid foundation as a world-leading translational centre and an effective innovation engine for Canada, we are excited to now have the permanent leadership in place to further build CDRD's impact and prominence, and to fully realize our vision of a sustainable Canadian health sciences sector improving lives globally.”
Dr. Joy Johnson, Vice-President, Research and International at Simon Fraser University, CDRD Director, and Chair of the Search Committee added, “CDRD has been very fortunate over the past several months to have Gordon step in and lead the organization in such an exemplary manner. And after having considered a highly-impressive slate of candidates from around the world, the Board of Directors is confident that Gordon's experience across so many facets of both industry and government make him our ideal candidate.”
Mr. McCauley remarked, “I am grateful to the CDRD Board for their vote of confidence, and for giving me the opportunity to lead what I know to be a truly world-class organization. Over the past few months, I have come to know directly the commitment, talent, and absolute excellence found in every one of our 100 team members - a team that I am truly honoured to formally join as we start to realize the extraordinary potential of CDRD and the Canadian life sciences community.”
