Vancouver, BC, March 3, 2014--(T-Net)--A Richmond-based food safety software company, Burton Software Inc., has been selected as a recipient for government funding, it was announced today.
The funding will go towards commercializing the company's new flagship software product, Icicle. The cloud-based software helps the food industry improve quality and reduce the risk of food-borne illnesses.
Funding was provided by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture through the Canada-BC Agri-Innovation Program (CBCAIP) under Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
CBCAIP is delivered by the Investment Agriculture Foundation of B.C., and reflects a government commitment of $13.4 million over the next five years (2013-2018) to help advance agricultural innovation in B.C.
Icicle was recognized as an innovative agri-based technology with the potential to expand export markets and help boost global growth, competitiveness and sustainability in the Canadian agriculture industry.
Icicle is designed for businesses involved in any aspect of food or food-related industries that require food safety plans or inspections. The technology helps implement seamless Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) food safety plans, document procedures, and undertake real-time inspections to ensure safe food products. Icicle's standardized and centralized system marks a significant shift away from the largely manual industry processes currently used to manage food safety.
“We're very happy to receive financial support from both Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture,” says Steven Burton, CEO and Founder of Burton Software. “Icicle is already transforming the food safety industry and, with additional financial resources afforded under the program, we hope to expand our reach throughout Canada and beyond to improve food safety and mitigate the risk to public health on a global scale.”
