Vancouver, BC, September 18, 2012--(T-Net)--Appnovation Technologies announced their collaboration with Kobo Inc., a leading global eReading service with more than 10-million users, on their recently launched Kobo Instant Reader application. The Vancouver-based firm worked with the makers of the Kobo eReading devices and its free eReading applications to develop its latest web apps using HTML5 and the SproutCore framework to enable deployment across multiple platforms and creating additional functionality for users.
Committed to its Read Freely philosophy which enables people to read eBooks anytime, any place, andon any device they choose, Kobo recognized the need for a cross-platform solution to address the constantly evolving global app market. With native apps for every major mobile platform, Kobo identified HTML5 as a strategic enabler in cross-platform technology giving iOS users an engaging browsing experience and eBook purchase path. To ensure that future frameworks would be robust and easily scalable to handle its content heavy applications, Kobo selected SproutCore, an HTML5 and Javascript framework, and Appnovation Technologies, a community supporter of SproutCore for its well-reputed innovation and expertise.
“Kobo's commitment to an open and multi-platform eReading solution relies on innovative solutions such as those provided by Appnovation Technologies,” said Wayne White, General Manager of Devices, Kobo. “Working with Appnovation gave us a flexible yet powerful platform to develop our new Instant Reader app which is now gives consumers a way to read across iOS devices through a variety of browsers.”
In addition to all the same capabilities of the previous Kobo app, the cloud-based apps come with key new features like Offline Mode (so readers can still access their libraries without an internet connection), a new reading interface and the ability to make in-app purchases The Instant Reader app was first featured in Google's Chrome Web Store in July 2012. Its latest version of the Kobo Instant Reader now allows iPhone and iPad users to read across devices through its cloud-based service automatically syncing eBook libraries.
“Getting the eReader working across multiple platforms was a complete team effort between Appnovation and Kobo,” said Arnold Leung, CEO of Appnovation Technologies. “As media continues to be consumed in new and different ways, creating Kobo's apps using HTML5 and the SproutCore framework will ensure a positive reading experience across any device for many years to come.”
