Vancouver, BC, May 27, 2013--(T-Net)--The Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC ended its 54th Annual General Meeting in Burnaby today with a new slate of officers in place. Heading BC's eighth-largest professional association as President for the next two years is previous Vice-President Dave Rutherford, AScT, BCLS, CLS.
An Instructor and BCIT Program Head in the Geomatics Engineering Technology and Degree programs, Rutherford joined ASTTBC in 1981, as soon as his professional experience permitted him to apply following graduation as an applied science technologist. Subsequent professional development brought Rutherford BC Land Surveyor, and Canada Lands Surveyor commissions.
Rutherford has served past terms as a Director on ASTTBC's Governing Council and is a past member of the Association of BC Land Surveyors Board of Examiners, and the organization's Professional Development Committee and Control Surveys Committees.
His community activities include a term as Past Vice President of the Coquitlam Optimist Club and he is currently a Senior Coach for Under 18 Boys Youth Soccer.
“Our Association is thriving and growing largely because of the commitment to excellence and service of our volunteer Executives over the years,” claims ASTTBC Executive Director, John Leech (AScT, CAE). “Many of our past and present volunteer officers have worked in senior educational institutions - and all have experience over many years in the private sector and government. This incoming executive is ahead of the curve in their grasp of relevant career and skills training, and in professional practice.”
