Vancouver, BC, April 22, 2014--(T-Net)--Eventbase Technology Inc., creators of an event app platform, announced that it has incorporated iBeacon™ technology into the official Tribeca Film Festival® 2014 app.
In an industry-first, the Tribeca Film Festival app is utilizing secure proximity beacons that have been deployed in public areas across Manhattan. The Tribeca Film Festival iPhone app can detect these beacons and direct fans to purchase tickets and see the schedule of films at nearby venues within the app. Beacons have also been placed within select venues, where fans will receive location-based information and alerts to post-screening surveys.
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), also known as Bluetooth Smart and called iBeaconTM by Apple, is a game-changing technology that lets smartphone and tablet users detect beacons and interact with people and objects around them.
Eventbase Co-founder, Jeff Sinclair, says iBeacon technology is transforming the event experience.
“Knowing where an attendee is located, even when indoors, allows us to deliver relevant information and services at exactly the right time,” Sinclair says. “But importantly, we've focused on minimizing the number of messages to ensure attendees are not overwhelmed.”
“We've received great feedback from attendees, and many of our event clients are excited to try this new technology.”
Eventbase successfully launched iBeacon technology at South By Southwest (SXSW) in March and has continued to work with hardware and software partners to ensure the technology is secure and safe. Importantly, the Tribeca Film Festival app is not using beacons to track personal information and privacy is safeguarded with controls that allow users to opt in and out of the service.
The official 2014 Tribeca Film Festival app uses the Gimbal (TM) context-aware proximity platform from Qualcomm Retail Solutions, which enables delivery of personalized, highly relevant communications to consumers on their mobile devices based on interests and context.
iBeaconTM and BLE technology is now available in the latest version of Eventbase's premium event app product.
