Cymax Welcomes Kevin Layden, Former Best Buy Canada President to its Board

Vancouver, BC, June 11, 2015--(T-Net)--Cymax Stores Inc., a leading e-commerce furniture retailer and technology innovator announced today the addition of high profile business leader, Kevin Layden, Former President and Chief Operating Officer at Best Buy Canada.
“We are excited Kevin Layden has agreed to join Cymax's Board of Directors. A veteran of the retail sector, Kevin's experience is unmatched,” said Arash Fasihi, Cymax's CEO. “He was instrumental in the integration of Future Shop when acquired by Best Buy Inc. and as COO of Best Buy International was responsible for its international expansion into Mexico, England and China which will benefit Cymax as we continue our own expansion,” Fasihi said.
“Mr. Layden was at the helm of Best Buy Canada at a time of major change in retailing, as customer expectations for online shopping and mobile commerce was emerging,” said Monique Janower, Cymax's Chief Marketing Officer. “His expertise will be invaluable as Cymax continues to meet our customers demand for a seamless mobile shopping experience,” she added.
Layden is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wesbild, a privately held real estate development company, Wesbild specializes in master-planned communities, shopping centres, high rises and golf courses. Kevin is the President and CEO of Wesbild Holdings Ltd.
Prior to Wesbild, Kevin was the President of Future Shop when it was purchased from Inwest Investments (Wesbild's parent company) by Best Buy Co. Inc. in 2001. He remained in his post as President after the closing and was responsible for the integration with Best Buy. He led the team responsible for building out the Best Buy banner across Canada using the standalone infrastructure of Future Shop while simultaneously growing the Future Shop banner. He was the Assistant Vice President General Manager in New York for Circuit City Stores from 1981 to 1997.
Kevin was also the chairman of Retail Council of Canada and served on the board for 8 years. He was on the Lower Mainland's 2008 United Way Campaign Cabinet for the Retail and Services Group as well as the Co-Chair for the 2010 United Way Campaign Cabinet. He currently serves on the Board of UDI, Pacific Region and Golfsmith International Inc.
