Iris Automation Raises US $1.5 Million Series-A Financing To Develop Collision Avoidance Systems for Drones

Vancouver, BC, January 20, 2017--(T-Net)--Vancouver and San Franscisco-based Iris Automation Inc., developers of intelligent collision avoidance systems for safer drone operation, have raised a new US $1.5 million Series-A financing round, according to a new report in TechCrunch.
This brings to $2 million US the amount raised by the company.
Previously, the company had raised more than $500k in seed funding from Bee Partners and Y Combinator, which has allowed the Vancouver-based business to open a second office in California and hire additional staff.
Bee Partners, LLC, a VC firm based in San Fransciso also lead the Series-A round.
CEO Alex Harmsen (UBC Alumni), recognized a need for high-tech computer vision solution for flying drones, and co-founded Iris Automation in 2015. Alexander holds a bachelor of Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia. He previously worked at the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab and received his pilot license at 16.
The company's CTO, James Howard holds a bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronics from the University of British Columbia. He has previous experience at Boeing, and Spire Global. James was on the founding team of the AniRevo Conference which hosted 15,000 attendees.
