Brent Holliday Biography

Who is Brent Holliday and why does he have an opinion?

Current Job: Partner, Greenstone Venture Partners

I have worked in health care as an organ donor coordinator for transplant centers in Toronto and Vancouver, choosing that job over grad school in Pharmacology. Subsequently, I completed the University of British Columbia MBA program, where I studied entrepreneurship and marketing, learning from the likes of Raffi Amit, Tarrnie Williams and Haig Farris. After starting and selling my own attempt at a multimedia publishing company, I created Propeller Head Consulting. The Prop Heads wrote business and marketing plans for local technology companies (Xantrex, Sonigistix and Photochannel to name a few) and occasionally were hung up on by or tossed out of offices of VCs.

Thinking that I had learned all there is to know about early stage technology companies, I was quickly humbled when I started Multiactive (now Maximizer) Technologies (TSX:E) with Terry Hui. One hundred employees and four new Internet content and software businesses later (including the acquisition of Maximizer), I had new respect for the awesome task of building companies.

Since March of 1997 I have been a venture capitalist investing in early stage technology companies in Western Canada. Until March of 1999, I did this with BDC Venture Capital and the Western Technology Seed Investment Fund. Presently, I am one of three members of an early stage technology venture capital fund, Greenstone Venture Partners. Greenstone is a US style VC firm with investments in Canada and the US (Seattle and San Francisco) looking to invest in and connect Canadian entrepreneurs with US financial and strategic partners.
