About EQO Communications

EQO (pronounced “echo”) develops mobile platforms and applications that extend online and web-based communities to mass market mobile handsets. The EQO platform powers a presence-enabled mobile service that keeps people connected to their online communities, even when they’re not in front of their computer - allowing them to bring their online friends with them wherever they go. EQO is introducing youth-focused mobile services that mobilize existing online social networks, provide mobile IM and presence-based voice calling, all on a single application that works across a multitude of mobile handsets. EQO’s solutions are marketed to consumers as a value-added mobile service directly, or by leveraging distribution and marketing relationships with mobile operators and online communities.

EQO Technology

EQO has developed a proprietary soft switch platform that aggregates identities across multiple online communities, bridges services across disparate networks, offers a simple way to invite, screen and manage multi-modes of communications (messaging, IM and voice) and works in today’s wireless environment, well in advance of or in addition to broad-scale IMS deployments.

Existing approaches to addressing the marketing opportunity for converged online and mobile services require upgrades to virtually every aspect of the user’s environment – mobile networks, handsets and service plans – and ultimately fail to capitalize on capabilities that already exist today. EQO, however, has taken a unique and considerably more pragmatic approach to solving this problem by applying concepts from telecommunications Service Control Point (SCP) architectures. At its core, EQO has developed a rich call control engine and a distributed architecture using standard web services to access shared resources. This, in combination with a proprietary call signaling framework, allows EQO to offload processing intensive tasks away from the handsets and onto the core gateway, thereby extending the reach to lower end handsets.
