About Westport Innovations Westport Innovations Inc., based in Vancouver, B.C., develops technology and products designed to reduce pollutant emissions from heavy duty diesel engines such as those used in buses, trucks, locomotives, ferries, off-road vehicles, as well as stationary power generators. The patented new High Pressure Direct (HPD) Injection technology has allowed Westport to develop a new natural gas fuel injector for diesel engines. This injector can be used to replace diesel fuel injectors in existing engines, or it can be incorporated in the construction of new diesel engines. Westport's other products include components of natural gas engine systems such as fuel pumps and electronic monitoring systems. Westport's potential market is the diesel engine industry, including buses, trucks, off-road vehicles, ferries and locomotives, as well as stationary applications. The Company's initial objective is to market conversion systems to public transit operators in the United States and Canada. Westport also intends to develop engine systems for specific applications in the North American market through the development and/or licensing of HPD Injection fuel systems to manufacturers for integration into new engines. As diesel injectors are replaced as part of the regular engine maintenance cycle, Westport intends to enter the injector replacement part market as the third element of its commercialization strategy.
