Our Language Expertise
The ActiveState team has core depth expertise in Perl, Python and Tcl and strong knowledge of Ruby, PHP and JavaScript through our related work. Our expertise extends from core language development to tools for ensuring successful development and deployment. This includes expertise in a variety of operating systems, frameworks, databases and other libraries and middleware that are necessary for successful application development.
Our Operating System Expertise
Wide systems knowledge is also part of the value we provide to customers to meet the demands of a cross-platform environment. We build, support and maintain ActivePerl, ActivePython, and ActiveTcl across a wide variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, to Solaris, AIX and HP-UX. ActiveState has also been key in porting languages to new systems, including 64-bit Windows, the Itanium architecture, Windows CE and other proprietary embedded systems.
ActiveState builds, manages, and tests on a regular basis:
- Perl: 4 current releases, over 10,000 packages
- Python: 3 current releases, over 7,000 packages
- Tcl: 3 current releases, over 700 packages
- For 6 operating systems with 16 Architectures
Our Commitment to Open Source
We are firmly rooted and committed to the open source dynamic language communities. Our technical leaders are leading contributors to the core Perl, Python, and Tcl language distributions, and with this deep expertise, they provide technical support and best practices advice to our enterprise customers.
We continue to provide our Community Edition language distributions free to the community. Komodo Edit, built on the Mozilla framework, was open sourced in 2008. As one of the first ISVs to build tools on top of the Mozilla framework, we built and contributed back pyxpcom, the Python binding to the Mozilla XPCOM framework.
Our Values
We have a mindset for growth and play an active role growing Perl, Python, and Tcl in the communities and in the enterprise.
We are open, honest, and respectful of the varying needs of the communities and businesses we serve.
We value working with others and work cooperatively as a team, with our customers and partners, and with the open source community.
We are passionate about learning to grow, expand our horizons, and innovate.
We are driven to make a difference in the communities we serve.
