Who we are
Ecojustice is a national charitable organization dedicated to defending Canadians' right to a healthy environment.
We are an independent organization and 100 percent of our funding is provided by our generous donors. Standing together with thousands of dedicated donors, creating change all Canadians can believe in, Ecojustice is making a determined and lasting difference.
We come from a variety of backgrounds, yet share one common goal: to ensure the long-term protection and health of our rich and diverse environment.
We believe we are all responsible for safeguarding the health of our natural environment. We defend the environment through the law.
We have only one planet and we believe it is our collective responsibility to care for the earth. We believe the time to act is now.
What we do
We are lawyers and scientists. We believe in leading the way to a sustainable future, and maintaining status quo is not going to get us there. We lead in four key areas: clean water, natural spaces, healthy communities and climate protection.
We provide legal services free-of-charge to charities and citizens on the front lines of the environmental movement helping ensure equitable access to environmental justice nationwide. We set legal precedents and strengthen environmental laws that protect and restore the environment both today and for all time.
We hold governments and corporations accountable to nature. Going to court is never a sure thing. It is expensive, time-consuming and the outcome uncertain. Litigation is a final, yet powerful option when all other alternatives have been exhausted.
Our work also extends outside the courtroom and includes outreach campaigns, workshops, investigations and reports that bring attention to our environmental work helping guide conservation efforts throughout Canada.
