Established in 1978 with a provincial mandate under the College & Institute Act, JIBC now delivers leading edge public safety and justice education and training in BC, Canada and internationally. More than 29,000 students from over 20 countries take our programs and courses annually.

Programs and courses are offered in three schools:
- School of Public Safety & Security
policing, sheriffs, security, investigation, enforcement, corrections, fire fighting, emergency management, and driver training
- School of Community & Social Justice
conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation, counselling, leadership, and Aboriginal programs

Programs and courses are primarily offered at seven campuses: the main New Westminster campus, and six other campuses in BC. JIBC also delivers programs and courses throughout BC, in more than 166 communities. Courses are delivered face-to-face and online.
Educational partnerships with more than 30 post-secondary institutions across BC, Canada and beyond broaden the reach of the Institute's programs.
Institute Services
The Institute provides students with a range of registration and student services, including counselling, financial aid and awards, Aboriginal student services and the JIBC Store.
The JIBC Library maintains a large collection of justice and public safety books, journals, video, and audio, and provides access to extensive online resources. Librarians are available to provide research assistance.
The Office of Graduate Studies & Academic Services sets standards for and oversees the development of academic programs, and coordinates the delivery of liberal arts courses and eLearning.
The Office of Applied Research builds JIBC's research capacity through a range of initiatives and projects.
The JIBC Foundation supports JIBC by raising funds for scholarships and bursaries, research initiatives, and the purchase of equipment and other learning tools.
