Renaissance BioScience is a privately held life sciences company based in Vancouver, Canada, that develops yeast-based platform technologies that solve important safety and quality problems in the food, beverage, biofuel, and pharmaceutical industries.
Our current products include a line of yeast strains that reduces the formation of acrylamide in carbohydrate-rich foods and coffee, and another that prevents the formation of hydrogen sulfide in wine, beer, and cider.
Through our wholly owned subsidiary, Renaissance Ingredients Inc., we have developed a line of yeast strains that prevent the formation of acrylamide, a potent carcinogen that occurs naturally in common carbohydrate-rich foods including baked goods; bread and crackers; potato products such as French fries and potato chips; other fried, toasted, or baked snack foods; breakfast cereals; and coffee. Our acrylamide-reducing yeast strains are currently in multiple stages of field testing with major food producers and other collaborative partners.
Our line of hydrogen sulfide-preventing yeast strains are available commercially for the global wine and cider industries through our wholly owned subsidiary, Renaissance Yeast Inc. Hydrogen sulfide is formed as a natural byproduct of yeast fermentation that causes significant quality and cost control problems for wine, beer, and cider producers due to its noxious odor and sensory masking effects.
Our future plans include applying our leading technical expertise and proprietary yeast technology platforms to solve other significant challenges in the food, beverage, biofuel, and pharmaceutical industries.
