So at the last meeting, about happiness at work, somehow overtime came up, and I thought that it might be a great topic to talk about. Especially sharing between people who are new to the industry compared to some people who are more experienced.
Some of the questions and concerns I think we could discuss are: - Does overtime "get you ahead"? - What are the concerns about burn out? - Should you do it for the first few years, and then pull back later on? - Since, as professionals, we don't get paid for it, if everyone does it, does that mean the company doesn't have to properly plan for budget/capacity to avoid overworking people?
Also, thank you to long time Women In Tech - YVR member Helen C (she was at the first meetup!!!) for reaching out and helping to host the event at SAP. Here's a little bit more about SAP:
----- SAP is the world leader in enterprise applications in terms of software and software-related service revenue. Based on market capitalization, we are the world's third largest independent software manufacturer. Operating in the Canadian market since 1989, SAP Canada serves customers across the country, and has a significant research and development presence with labs located in Montreal, Toronto, Waterloo, and Vancouver. -----
And men are welcome. However, I wish to keep the invite in the +1 guest format as I want to ensure this meetup to be a safe space for people to share and attend.
Doors open at 5:30 for socializing and snacks. Official start will be 6:00, with a bit more mingling to follow.
Hope to see you there!
Please RSVP if you're coming, and please update promptly if your plans change.
