In 2019, The WIMDI Speaker Series is inviting engaging speakers each month to give talks on topics that help women kill it at work.
Welcome to Talk 5 of 12 - Solve Your Biggest Problem at Work
This month we're trying something new at WIMDI: Live, in-person coaching to help our members solve whatever's getting in their way. All of us have challenges we're up against at work, and this event is designed to give you expert help in untangling them. We've got three leadership coaches on deck (all of whom have worked in male-dominated industries) to help you figure out where you're stuck and what to do about it.
In this workshop we'll do a mix of facilitated discussion and group coaching to help you solve your biggest work problem -- whatever it is -- before the night is over. We'll cover:
- What your problem is and specifically how it's hanging you up
- What you'd want your future to look like if you could solve your problem
- What's standing in the way of the solution you want
- The next small step you can take to move you closer to what you want at work
The goal of this workshop is to give you insight into the dynamics that are contributing to your work problem, and practical steps you can take to make your work life better.
This workshop is co-facilitated by Holly Burton, Darrell Farrow, and Sasha Herman.
Holly Burton, Leadership Coach
Holly is a leadership coach for women in male-dominated industries. She works one-on-one with ambitious women to help them lead, get promoted, and create the careers they actually want in industries they love. As a mining engineer for the first ten years of her career, Holly was exposed to one of the most male-dominated spaces -- just 17% female. She uses the unique perspective she gained as a woman in mining, alongside her obsessive nerdiness for all things feminism, leadership, and career to help women create the working world they deserve while they wait for the rest of society to catch up.
Darrell Farrow, Leadership Coach
Darrell is a geologist with over 30 years of experience leading and mentoring in a male-dominated industry. She's spent her career navigating the oldest of old-school boys clubs: the South African Mining Industry. Darrell started her career as the first woman geologist employed in the mines and worked her way into senior technical management. All while balancing a successful career with raising a family and creating an equal parenting partnership with her husband. Darrell believes whole-heartedly that it is possible for women to be successful and step out of the roles and patterns they've learned from a young age. Now Darrell works with ambitious women who want to achieve their career goals and lead balanced lives.
Sasha Herman, Leadership Coach
Sasha is a Senior Strategist with Telus and leadership coach that helps people find fulfillment in their 9 to 5. Sasha's whole deal is helping people be happy at work. She believes that we're human beings, not human doings: If you're not happy doing what you're doing, then what is the point? If you're not having a good experience in your life, than nothing else matters. Sasha's job is to help you figure out what you want your life to be like and then what you do to make that happen. She's proudly leading the charge in the anti-hustle movement.
Doors open at 5:30 for mingling and socializing. The official start time is 6pm, with additional networking time to follow. We'll have food and drinks available since this is a longer event.
