WCTBC & SFU are pleased to host this popular event, based on the Oxford-style debates popularized by the podcast 'Intelligence Squared.'
About this Event
Every day, we see the effects of disruption and reinvention in the digital world. Fake news and misinformation spread at speed to intensify echo chambers. Citizens mobilize across platforms to hold their elected representatives publicly accountable. Social media and the Internet are both a call to action for societal change and a platform used by countries like Russia to interfere with elections.
Is it time for a digital revolution to keep democracy alive? Or are we at the point of no return?
Based on the Oxford-style debates popularized by the podcast 'Intelligence Squared,' the BC chapter of Women in Communications and Technology and Simon Fraser University's Big Data Initiative bring you Women in Debate: Big Data and Elections.
Join leading women in the field as they debate: has technology corrupted democracy?

- Shalaleh Rismani | Director and Executive Member, Open Roboethics Institute
- Olivia Norton | Founder, Sanctuary.ai
