In 2022, The WIMDI Speaker Series is inviting engaging speakers each month to give interactive talks on topics that help women kill it at work.
Welcome to Talk 6 of 13 - Job Search Strategies for First Time Managers
Moving up the career ladder is tough - and doing it while getting hired at a whole new company is even trickier! If you're itching to move into your first management job, you'll need to find the right combination of tips, tricks, and magic resume wording that will convince hiring managers you've got the skills to manage a team.
This talk will focus on everything you need to know to successfully transition up a level from individual contributor to manager in your next job search (even if you've never had the "official" manager title before). We'll cover:
The five basic steps to getting hired in your first management job
Steps you can take to feel 100% confident that you already have the skills to be a great manager
The do's and don'ts of positioning your transferable skills so you're an ideal fit for management
Interview and resume-writing techniques that will help you move up the ladder
The goal of this talk is to get you handing in your two weeks' notice from your boring individual contributor job because you just got hired for your first management role! Woo hoo!

This is a networking group for women in male-dominated industries (eg: mining, finance, tech, engineering, construction, politics, etc.). We meet once a month for coffee/tea to chat, comiserate, strategize, and cheer each other on. It's a great way to connect with women facing your issues when they are few and far between in your work life.
