1. How Pointless Projects Made my Career - Jonny Kalambay

The story of going from completely non-technical to running a profitable software company on my own. I'll share about the projects that helped me learn to code, work as a dev, and then eventually jump ship to build my own ed-tech startup.

Jonny is passionate about software and education. In March of 2022, he quit his comfortable job as a full-stack software engineer and has been building his own company, an ed-tech platform called Roshi.

2. How I Made an AI Terminal Helper with GPT-3 and Node.js - YK

Learn how to make a terminal AI helper from scratch with Node.js and GPT- OpenAI's large language model ChatGPT is based on.

YK is the creator of CS Dojo, a programming education YouTube channel with 1.8M+ subscribers. Also active on a few other platforms including Twitter, giving tips on coding, AI, and a career in tech. Currently, a founding engineer at an AI startup.

3. Video Creation on the Web - Emmanuel Seynaeve

A look at different visual elements to create a video creation web application: text, images, graphics and video. We'll discover how we can create, manipulate, animate and render them efficiently.

Emmanuel has been a professional builder/developer for 24 years. He started making tools for the creative industry (animation, visual effects and games) before making his way into startups (SAAS), currently working as a staff software engineer at Lumen5.

VanJS is a meetup for web developers downtown Vancouver.

The focus is on Javascript, HTML5, and the open web. Javascript frameworks, browser functionality, tips and tricks are all popular topics. The meeting format is two 45 minute talks, followed by pub time for discussion.

We usually meet every other month. Let us know if there's something you'd like to give a talk on!
