Event Description

The VIATEC Community Awards will take place November 30th in Carson Hall at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas Street.

For over 22 years, the event has been produced by VIATEC, Victoria's tech industry association, and known as the VIATEC Awards. The Gala has been a great success and considered a favourite event within the tech community and visiting guests alike.

Building on this success, VIATEC has engaged with other local tech-focused organizations to gain insights into how the event can most meaningfully evolve. These organizations include:

iWIST (Island Women in Science and Technology)
The Coast Capital Innovation Centre (UVic's on-campus venture incubator)
CIN (Capital Investment Network)
Women's Equity Lab
Alacrity Canada

The awards brings the tech community together to connect with each other and take a moment to spotlight and celebrate some of the year's most notable companies and individuals within Victoria's $4 billion tech sector. This year the coalition is aiming to increase inclusivity and ensure that the broader tech community knows that they 'belong' even if they are not 'members' of one organization or another. Any Victoria tech company is welcome to nominate.

The coalition worked together to update and refine the award categories and recipients will now be chosen by either a panel of delegates from the coalition or audience polling at the event itself.

Join us for an evening of rocket-fuelled entertainment, celebration, networking and more fun than grown-ups are used to!

Company Overview

The Victoria Advanced Technology Council (VIATeC) is the conduit that connects people, knowledge and resources to grow a successful technology sector in Greater Victoria.

Since VIATeC's inception way back in 1989, the Greater Victoria tech sector has grown to over 800 known technology companies, employing more than 13,000 people and generating in excess of $1.95 billion in annual revenues with an economic impact of $2.65 billion. That's bigger than the revenues generated by the entire NHL and explains why the advanced technology is Greater Victoria's #1 private industry.

VIATeC is intended to be the first place that people contact for information or assistance related to advanced technology in Greater Victoria. VIATeC's membership, which currently stands at over 350 annually elects VIATeC's Board of Directors, which in turn provides guidance to the Executive Director.

Sector Information and Promotion

Serve as the definitive source of information on the local technology sector and the companies within it and be the driving force to promote the accomplishments of the Greater Victoria technology sector and the opportunities within it.

Talent

Raise awareness of the career opportunities available within local technology companies by targeting experienced workers and recent graduates while also promoting technology careers and innovation students.

Networking and Connections

Offer top quality networking and community building opportunities by connecting members through events and introductions along with topic specific information as requested.

Education and Mentoring

Provide timely, valuable information through seminars and connect interested members with experienced, volunteer mentors and advisors.
