We all recognize that software engineers vary based on their skill level. Some have limited experience, needing a lot of guidance, whereas others have a great depth and breadth of experience, making them natural innovators and leaders. In this talk, we'll discuss the role of "Principal Engineer", a job title often associated with larger companies, but if supported correctly can also exist in smaller companies.
In this talk, we'll discuss:
What is the role of Principal Engineer (compared with a Manager)?
Does your organization need a Principal Engineer (or several)?
Where do they fit in the org chart?
How do you support them for success?
Is your engineer actually ready for the role?
Dr Peter Smith is a Principal Researcher at Galvanize. In his past lives he's been a university instructor, a software team manager, a project manager, a book author, a consultant, and a software developer. Having spent 38 years writing code (including 10 years in university and 20 years in the software industry), he has plenty of grey hair and lots of opinions to share. In his current role at Galvanize, he focuses on researching new ways of solving technical problems.
Join us to learn more from Peter's experience!
