While the term micro-aggression is now in widespread use, they can still be difficult to identify, talk about and stand up to. In this session, we will learn more in-depth what they are, where they originate, as well as strategies to respond. This session with be interactive, and ask participants to weigh in with their own experiences and strategies.
We've partnered with Leah Shumka, Manager of Sexualized Violence Education, Prevention and Support at the faculty of Equity and Human Rights, UVic to explore the issues in an interactive format with actionable next steps.
Companies should be working to create more diversity, equity and inclusion within and outside of their organization. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it makes clear business sense. New research is proving companies with more diverse workforces in gender, race and ethnicity perform better financially. Companies in the top quartile for gender diversity outperform their competitors by 15% and those in the top quartile for ethnic diversity outperform their competitors by 35%.
We know that inclusive workplaces foster positive cultures that minimize bias and recognize and address systemic inequities so that no one is disadvantaged. Hiring with these goals in mind is a great place to start. We also know it takes learning and intentional effort to achieve this. Thanks for your commitment to learning!
