In 2019, The WIMDI Speaker Series is inviting engaging speakers each month to give talks on topics that help women kill it at work.
Welcome to Talk 6 of 12 - Preparing for Your First Conference Talk
Presenting at conferences is an amazing way to build credibility, notoriety, and a solid reputation for technical knowledge. Leveraging speaking in your career can help you make the most out of your talents by making you visible to people who value what you have to offer. It is never too early to start speaking -- there's always something you know that others don't -- and getting a head start lets you reap the career benefits as soon as possible.
This talk will focus on how you can use speaking to increase your visibility and career trajectory. We'll cover:
- The value of public speaking
- The mindset you need to enjoy presenting
- How to find and pitch yourself for speaking events
- How to put an effective presentation together
The goal of this talk is to get you up on the speaking stage and reaping the career benefits that come with presenting.
This talk will be given by Janice Tomich, Executive Speaker Coach.
Janice Tomich works with executives and entrepreneurs to build confident, powerful voices that inspire their audiences to take action. She is an executive advisor, community influencer, educator, and contributing writer to publications like Huffington Post Canada and Inc. Janice is the champion behind many keynotes, TEDx, and TED speakers. She is also the co-founder of TEDxKids@BC, the first TEDx event to provide a platform for kids to share their ideas.
When not working with clients, Janice can be found volunteering at Dress for Success Vancouver, riding her skinny-tired road bike around Vancouver's seawalls, or standing at her easel painting.
