For this competition, competitors are tasked with using data generated from radiation transport simulations to make predictions on sources of radiation. Each data set - called a run - simulates the detection events received by a standard thallium-doped sodium iodide - NaI(Tl) - detector, specifically a 2"x4"x16" NaI(Tl) detector, driving along several city street blocks in a search vehicle. All of the runs contain data on radiation-detector interaction events from the natural background sources (roadway, sidewalks, and buildings), and some of the runs also contain data arising from non-natural extraneous radiation sources.
For each run in the test set, competitors are tasked with creating a detection algorithm on the event data to determine (1) whether there is a non-natural extraneous source along the path (the detection component), and if so, (2) what type of source it is (identification) and (3) at what point the detector was closest to it during the run (location - which in this competition will be reported in seconds from the start of the run).

This is an online event. Please click the Attend Online button below to get the Zoom link.
We meet every two weeks to learn more about data science by discussing Kaggle competitions (https://www.kaggle.com). If you want to get better at data wrangling, feature engineering, model selection or just want to have fun solving non-trivial data science problems, this is the right group to join!
To get the most out of the meetup, please try to look at the competition beforehand. It's OK if you don't understand it all. The meetup is for questions and discussion.
At the end of the meeting we will discuss which competitions we want to look at for future meetups. Bring your suggestions!
Videos will be recorded and posted to YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhW_16uxALr0X4olEW2p5A
