Job Purpose
Alpha Technologies Ltd., now a part of EnerSys, has an opportunity for a service-oriented and knowledgeable Technical Applications Specialist to join our Customer Service group in our Burnaby location.
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Applications, the Technical Applications Specialist is responsible for the technical application of Alpha products to customers, channel partners, inside sales, and field sales personnel. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the selling process. Main duties include the preparation of Quotations/RFQs and responding to Request for Proposals (RFPs). This may or may not include the creation of an accompanying layout drawing. The Applications Engineer may also be called on to provide pre-sales technical assistance on the application of products to meet the customer's powering needs, and to provide technical details on the products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build rapport with key customers
- Work closely with sales personnel and customers to determine customer requirements and make cost-effective and innovative recommendations related to the selection and application of Alpha power products
- Prepare and present equipment Quotes/RFQs and Proposals
- Drive the resolution of pre-sales technical issues related to power supplies and power system integration in the field
- Design power solutions to incoming customer requests, including complex applications and preparation of customer proposals
- Quote types may include Standard product, Configured-to-Order (CTO) product, and Engineered-to-Order product (ETO)
- Coordinate with other departments to obtain the technical details necessary to produce technical bulletins and other support documentations, such as sales presentations and technical responses
- May conduct product demonstrations and sales presentations; may provide technical training for customers, dealers, and employees
- Review and prepare formal responses to Customer Specifications
- Field incoming customer telephone inquiries
- Technical Liaison for internal and external customers.
- Review and signoff on customer purchase orders per Sales Order Review procedures
- Participate in designated trade shows
- Review and update quotation status/records/tools
Qualifications
- 3-4 years experience of strong customer interaction, AC UPS and/or DC power systems support experience and a working knowledge of electrical distribution systems
- Technical Diploma or Equivalent in the Electronics/Telecommunications field
- PC/Windows proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook; and familiarity with a drawings program (Microsoft Visio)
- Sales, Pre-Sales, or Applications Engineer position or equivalent experience in the technology sector
- Highly organized individual with strong attention to detail
- Exceptional English communication skills both verbal and written; fluency in a second language, especially French or Spanish is an asset
- Creative problem solving/troubleshooting skills.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; able to work in fact-paced environment
- Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision
- Work may occasionally need to be performed outside of normal business hours
- Willing and able to travel internationally (infrequent)
