Ballard has an immediate opening for an Electrical Engineer (E2) to join the Systems Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, is capable of independent work, and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform design, packaging and verification of electrical systems
- Select and source electrical components (sensors, controllers, converters/inverters, PCBA, contactors, transformers, etc.)
- Develop component design requirements from system requirements
- Design prototype components and subsystems
- Verify designs through analysis and testing
- Troubleshooting/resolution of existing electrical components and systems
- Assist in preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
- Prepare and/or review technical drawings
Qualifications:
- Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
- Must have at least 4 years' experience in an electrical engineering field
- Experience designing, drawing, analyzing low voltage analog & digital circuits
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
- Basic electrical prototyping skills required including: bread-boarding, soldering through-hole and surface-mount components
- Basic skill with mechanical prototyping tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
- Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Assets:
- Experience and interest in PCB design
- Knowledge of fuel cell technology
- Ability to create Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Experience with PLCs, Alarm Lists, and creation of I/O drawings
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software
- Experience with instrumentation including pressure, temperature and flow measurement devices
- Experience with LabVIEW software
- Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code or European IEC standards
- Experience/proficiency in automation and machine communication
