Ballard's Lab Equipment Office has an exciting opportunity for a Electrical Design Engineer in our Burnaby BC headquarters. You will be working directly with our senior engineering staff, and will contribute to the development of Ballard's fuel cell system products. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and verification of electrical systems
- Selecting and sourcing electrical components
- Development of component design requirements from system requirements
- Designing prototype components and subsystems
- Building prototype electrical systems
- Verification of designs through analysis and testing
- Troubleshooting/resolution of existing electrical components and systems
- Preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
- Preparing and/or reviewing technical drawings
- Managing projects to completion
- On call technical support
- Possible supervision/mentoring of junior employees
Qualifications:
- Engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
- 3-5 year's experience in a relevant industry
- Experience designing, drawing, analyzing power circuits up to 690VAC and 1500VDC)
- Experience designing, drawing, analyzing analog & digital circuits (5, 10, 15, 24VDC, 48, and 110VDC)
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic components and their characteristics, applications and limitations
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Experience with PLCs, distributed I/O, and the creation of I/O lists
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or similar drafting software
- Experience with instrumentation (e.g. pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices), and knowledge of their calibration and suitability to meet measurement accuracy requirements
- Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and/or National Electrical Code
- Troubleshooting skills with DMM and oscilloscope
- Basic electrical prototyping skills required including: bread-boarding, soldering through-hole and surface-mount components
- Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skills
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment
Assets:
- Experience with E-Plan
- Knowledge of international standards for electrical equipment
- Ability to create Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Experience with LabVIEW software
- Experience / proficiency in automation and machine communication
- Basic skill with mechanical prototyping tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
