Ballard has a regular full-time position available for a Senior or Principal Research Scientist/Engineer at our Burnaby location. The successful candidate will provide key high level technical leadership and coordination within the Electrodes Research Team, coordinate Research activity support of product development programs, and develop external research collaborations. The successful individual will also, lead or conduct design studies, and develop advanced cathode catalyst designs and processing methodologies. Responsibilities: - Work as part of the Electrodes Team to maintain and enhance functional excellence in the area of catalyst technology, including development of intellectual property and technical know-how
- Lead and coordinate the delivery of electrode and catalyst layer designs to meet product or customer requirements
- Seek out, coordinate, and guide high impact research collaborations aligned with and support of Ballard's technology roadmap
- Provide mentoring and supervision to team members
- Coordinate the pursuit of funding opportunities to support external collaboration and supplement internal research efforts
- Work closely with the CCM team to support scale-up of new designs, and investigate new processing techniques to enable advanced designs
- Support and interact with other research, product development, processing, and commercial teams as required
- Act as a resource for resolution of unique or complex business problems
- Lead or conduct complex projects involving multiple disciplines or business units.
- Design and conduct experimental studies to advance fuel cell catalyst technology
- Analyze, interpret and summarize electrochemical data
Requirements: - Degree in Electrochemistry, Physical Chemistry or relevant Engineering field
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience is an asset
- Minimum 5 years related experience
- A recognized expert in the area of PEM fuel cell catalysis research
- Good project management skills
- Familiarity with product development processes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to all levels of the organization
- Strong organization and problem solving skills
- Proven ability to deliver results under pressure
