Ballard's Lab Equipment Design and Support (LEDS) Office has an opportunity for a Calibration Technologist in our Burnaby, BC headquarters. You will be supporting a variety of departments (Research, Product Development and Production) and staff (Technologists, Technicians, Engineers and Scientists) to service and calibrate instrumentation used on a wide variety of test stations and equipment that run 24/7.
Responsibilities: - Calibration of analog and digital Mass Flow Meters/Controllers using our Calibration Flowbench with Molblocs for a variety of gases (hydrogen, nitrogen and air)
- Troubleshoot, repair, modify and assemble MFM/MFC's (both analog and digital).
- Monitor inventory of MFM/MFC spare parts.
- Assist in procuring and sourcing MFM/MFC spare parts.
- Manage yearly recalibration and preventative maintenance of the Flowbench reference units.
- Maintain up to date logging of Calibration certificates into calibration database.
- Write work instructions and procedures.
- Calibration of Relative Humidity sensors, Pressure transducers, Differential Pressure transducers, thermocouples, liquid flowmeters and conductivity sensors.
- Characterize flow elements and vessels.
- Assist in managing the external calibration of handheld meters such as manometers, thermometers, multimeters and other instruments.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding parts specifications and availability.
- Help support the build, maintenance and troubleshooting of test stations and test equipment when necessary.
Requirements: - Technical training in the fields of Mechanical, Electronic or Instrumentation Technology or equivalent experience, plus 3 to 5 years of experience working with compressed gases, electronics and instrumentation.
- Knowledge of gas flow, pressure, and temperature. Understands the Ideal Gas Law (PV=nRT).
- Experience with MS Office suite of products.
- Must be well organized and able to handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Focused commitment to maintaining tight time schedules.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with hand tools - wrenches, sockets and screwdrivers.
- Experience using multimeters, manometers and thermometers for troubleshooting.
Assets: - Experience with Agile and Oracle ERP.
- Ability to read Process & Instrumentation Diagrams and electrical schematics.
- Experience soldering electronic components.
